Kieserite is a greyish-white crystalline powder which contains about 16% magnesium and is used as a fertilizer. It is regarded as a concentrated form of epsom salt, having less water of crystallization. The monohydrate MgSO4·H2O(m onoclinic) occurs in nature as kieserite which contains 27% magnesium (as MgO) and 22% sulphur.
Magnesium sulfate fertilizer is a dual-element fertilizer widely used in agriculture and forestry. Magnesium is a core element of chlorophyll, accelerating the synthesis of various substances, enhancing disease resistance, promoting enzyme activation, loosening compacted soil, and promoting the development of plant root systems for optimal nutrient absorption. It increases chlorophyll content, promotes growth, shortens the growth cycle, and significantly improves fruit brightness, color, and taste. It effectively supplements magnesium for crops and soil, particularly during the early stages of plant growth. Adequate magnesium supply helps establish a balanced and healthy root system to absorb water and other nutrients. Magnesium and sulfur have a broad impact on metabolic processes and are key to high yields and quality. Magnesium sulfate fertilizer is easily absorbed and does not alter soil pH levels.
Magnesium sulfate fertilizer can be used alone or as part of a compound fertilizer. Magnesium sulfate fertilizer can be used directly as a base fertilizer, top dressing, and foliar fertilizer; it can be used in traditional agriculture as well as in high value-added precision agriculture, floriculture, and soilless cultivation.
Magnesium sulfate monohydrate is an important inorganic agricultural input product that is currently widely used in the feed and fertilizer industries. When manufacturing compound fertilizers, using magnesium sulfate monohydrate as a drying additive is not only economical and practical, but also improves product performance, prevents caking during storage and transportation, and increases material flow on production lines, thereby boosting product output. Furthermore, since monohydrate magnesium sulfate is rich in sulfur and magnesium—two essential nutrients beneficial to crop growth—using it as a specialized drying additive for compound fertilizers not only resolves drying issues but also enhances the yield-enhancing effects of compound fertilizers, further increasing crop production with highly significant benefits.
