what is Irgacure 819?
Irgacure 819 (chemical name: Phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphineoxide ) is a highly efficient general-purpose UV photoinitiator for initiating UV polymerization of unsaturated prepolymerization systems. It can be used for the curing of thick film systems, especially for white systems, glass reinforced polyester/ Styrene system. It can also be used for outdoor varnish when used in combination with light stabilizers.
Function
Photoinitiator 819 has been tested for printing inks and prepreg systems on wood, metal, plastic, paper and fiber surfaces.
In high opacity white paints, paints and inks containing titanium white or other pigments, the addition of a small amount of IRGACURE 819 gives the coating excellent cure and UV yellowing resistance. Since IRGACURE 819 has excellent absorption properties, it can be used in thick film systems.
Photoinitiator 819 can be used in conjunction with other photoinitiators such as IRGACURE 184 or IRGACURE 651. The combination of photoinitiator 819 and IRGACURE 651 is particularly suitable for curing polyester/styrene resin systems, such as glass fiber reinforced materials.
Since the photoinitiator 819 can be used in combination with an ultraviolet light absorber, such as TINUVIN 400, the photoinitiator 819 can be applied to a UV curable coating requiring weather resistance.
In white and thick film systems, there is the fastest cure speed. Although the yellow phase appears slightly at the time of curing, it has a photobleaching effect at a later stage.
Recommended dosage:
Clear acrylic and unsaturated polyester/styrene coatings 0.1 – 0.2% IRGACURE819 1 – 2% IRGACURE184
White acrylic and unsaturated polyester/styrene coatings 0.5 – 1% IRGACURE819 1 – 2% IRGACURE184
Colored acrylic formula 0.5 – 1% IRGACURE819 1 – 2% IRGACURE184
White Screen Printing Ink 0.5 – 1.5% IRGACURE819 1 – 2% IRGACURE184
Glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester/styrene prepreg 0.1 – 0.2% IRGACURE819
Safety and Operation of Irgacure 819 As an industrial chemical, the following precautions should be strictly observed:
1) Work in a clean, well-ventilated environment.
2) Wear eye masks to avoid irritation to the eyes.
3) The sensitivity of the photoinitiator 819 to visible light is determined, so direct sunlight should be avoided.
4) The product should be stored in a place where direct sunlight is avoided.
