What Is D-Mannose?
It is divided into two types, α-form and β-form. The Α-form is a methyl group crystal with a melting point of 133 °C; the β-form is an ethyl group with a melting point of 132 °C (decomposition point). Sweet and slightly bitter aftertaste. Soluble in water (250%), insoluble in ethanol (0.4%), insoluble in ether.
Usage
1. Used as a biochemical reagent
2. Used for cell culture and molecular biology
D-(+)-mannose, a simple sugar that has many uses, including:
Glycosylation: D-(+)-mannose is used in the formation of glycan structures and glycosylation.
Protein glycosylation: Mannose is a critical sugar for protein glycosylation.
Alternative energy source: The brain can use mannose as an alternative energy source.
Prebiotic: Some studies suggest that D-mannose may help the body by stimulating the growth of “good” bacteria in the digestive system.
Immune system: Mannose has demonstrated benefits for the immune system, being active against metabolic syndrome, diabetes, intestinal diseases, urinary tract infections, and other conditions.
Food industry: Mannose is used as a texture modifier in ice creams, salad dressings, and processed fruits.
Cell culture and microbiology: D-(+)-mannose is suitable for cell culture and microbiology.
Humectant: D-(+)-mannose is used as a humectant.
D-(+)-mannose is a white to almost white powder or crystal. It is recommended to store it in a cool, dark place at a temperature below 15°C.
